MYRTILLES - SHOP BRANDING

I wanted to design a solid and playful visual identity for my Etsy shop through which I sell my illustration goods. The shop's name Myrtilles means blueberries in French. Since the brand represents my love of printed items and commercial illustration, I loved the idea of calling back to the style of early print, where fills were often created using hatching and contour lines. I also loved the idea of a chunkier line weight. Pulling from other printing formats of woodblock and linoleum printing lends to the aspect of whimsy.

This collection utilizes design meant to combine style aspects of current "kawaii" culture as well as pulling from vintage simple two color illustration from the 30's-50's.

The type for this was chosen both for the soft and feminine aspects of the script as well and the strength and consistency illustrated by the line weight. A simple title was chosen as a way to highlight without over shadowing the message of the design.

The fluffy and and sweet nature of the fish illustration is reflected with the puffy, chunky type. The way the base line bounces around to keep all the letters in the same profile is also a nod to the playfulness of the illustration style.

A classic market hand-painted style type for a vintage inspired illustration. The idea was to use a font reminiscent of old store ads or window art. Something familiar and commercial calling to childhood halloween holidays.

As have many in the brand, this collection pulls from soft illustrations from 1940's Christmas cards. I wanted to celebrate the fun hand script of the era that contrasted with the geometric design cues of that era.
